Mountain View Master Plan

The Friends of Mountain View, Inc. were instrumental in submitting for funding sources for the purpose of creating this plan.  Working with our partners, countless hours were volunteered assisting with the historical background of the property, investigating case studies, organizing and facilitating community input and design workshops, and advising the City of Roanoke on a vision plan that will be sensitive to the historic integrity of Mountain View Park.  The City of Roanoke Department of Parks and Recreation managed the project on behalf of the City. The Department worked closely with the Friends of Mountain View in assisting with their stewardship of the property and developing a plan that we believe not only respects the historic integrity of the property but also provides a vision for a recreation center for the 21st century.

Friends of Mountain View is grateful for the funding received through a Certified Local Government (CLG) grant provided by the National Park Service and awarded and administered through the Virginia Department of Historic Resources.  The seed money for the project which served as local matching funds for the CLG grant was provided by a generous grant from the Katherine Nelson Fishburn Foundation, who without their assistance and financial support, this project would not have happened.

The  project's consulting team included Hill Studio for the architectural assessment, historic treatment recommendations, architectural conceptual design for the buildings, and landscape design for the grounds.  Spectrum Design provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural assessments and recommendations. Building Specialists provided construction cost estimates for the Fishburn Mansion and outbuildings.
